Expensive things that aren't worth the money
1.HDMI and other cables from shops
Plan ahead with this kind of stuff, if you need to purchase, do it online. Amazon is usually a good bet, or look on Price Runner for comparison prices. We are all for supporting the high street , but sometimes electronic shops can charge over double than shops online, shop around.
2. Bread machines
It's easy to make your own bread, yes. However it is actually cheaper to buy from the shop, and easier. Spend time and money making a nice meal or some cakes! This American wrote a blog about the costs of making bread, they felt so passionate about it http://heartsofthegods.blogspot.co.uk/2007/08/is-it-cheaper-to-bake-your-own-bread-or.html
3. Manicures and pedicures
Many of us girls (and maybe boys?) spend money on a monthly or even weekly basis getting our nails done. Think about the amount of money that this adds up to, for example £30 per month is £360 per year! Over a period of just five years that is almost £2000.
4. Beats
The headphones. Why would we pay hundreds of pounds for headphones. There are plenty of other good quality headphones on the market that won't cost an arm and a leg. You are paying for the brand, and quite frankly, nobody cares about what headphones you are using.
5. Designer dogs
For moral and financial reasons, don't do it. Don't buy, adopt. Dogs (and cats) from shelters and rescue homes will be grateful that you have quite literally saved their lives. They have bucket loads of love and personality, maybe more so than an expensive and designer dog.
6. An over-extravagant wedding
Save up for your special day by all means but be realistic and don't splash out on what you can't really afford. A great day can be had by all on a limited budget and remember the reason why you are actually getting married.
7. Over-priced restaurants
Do you want to go out for a fancy steak, great, but that could set you back £25+ per person! That's not including drinks/starters/sides/deserts. Go to the supermarket and buy the food yourself. Food like steak is really easy to make and you can invest in a really good piece of meat.
8. Buying things the very second that they come out
Don't get caught up in the fads! Wait and be patient, the price will go down eventually.
If you can't control your sending and are in debt, give Churchwood Finance a call, they may be able to help.
